A story of selflessness and thirst to make positive impact in the world

Madam Kesewaa

Madam Yaa Kesewaa Forson-Benn's mission, vision, and aspirational goal were to create a sporting club in her hometown of Bieseasi, located in the Ajumako District of Ghana. The primary objective was to mobilize young girls and boys from grassroots communities, engaging them in sporting activities to combat the epidemic of teenage pregnancy.

Having witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by teenage mothers passing by her residence, often with newborn babies wrapped in towels, Madam Forson-Benn felt compelled to take action. She began by soliciting surplus blankets, bedsheets, and towels from nursing homes, hospitals, and hotels. These supplies were then shipped in containers to Bisease.

Her mission extended beyond material aid. Madam Forson-Benn personally reached out to teenage mothers, offering words of advice and practical support. She provided blankets, towels, bedsheets, and even financial assistance to equip these new, vulnerable mothers as they cared for their infants.

Despite her efforts, Madam Forson-Benn realized that simply providing aid wouldn't be enough to curb the teenage pregnancy epidemic. Consequently, she devised activities to engage the teenage population in her township, aiming to prevent them from getting involved in street hangouts—a factor contributing to unwanted pregnancies.

On a Sunday afternoon, Madam Yaa Kesewaa Forson-Benn reached out to her first son, Mr. Samuel Madison Kweku Benn, who resides in the USA. She requested soccer balls, jerseys, boots, as well as trophies and medals from him.

Upon learning of his mother's idea and plan, her son generously provided these items. Unfortunately, Madam Yaa Kesewaa Forson-Benn's journey to Ghana, where she intended to start her mission by distributing these items, was cut short just a month before her planned trip. Her sudden passing was in accordance with the divine timing known only to the Lord. Following her burial in her hometown, Mr. Samuel Madison Kweku Benn consulted with Mr. Isaac Mensah, a teacher at Bisease Methodist School. Through Auntie Aba Danquah, a Methodist church singing band leader, they worked diligently and capitalized on the generosity of Madam Yaa Kesewaa Forson-Benn. Together, they formed a team of young boys and later added a girls' team as well.

Thus, the birth of Team Kesewaa Sporting Club, named in honor of the visionary Madam Yaa Kesewaa Forson-Benn. The club's sole mission is to combat teenage pregnancy through sports. The management has been tirelessly working around the clock to ensure that Kesewaa Sporting flourishes indefinitely.

Today, the stakeholders of Kesewaa Sporting Club, along with its subsidiary BEMMEN, are an organization to be reckoned with in the field of football within the central region and even at the national level in Ghana. These achievements are spearheaded by the team manager and Sporting Director, Mr. Frederick Morgan, and his dedicated management personnel—all accomplished in just under four years.
